This rifle was produced sometime in 1962 to 1973. The wear looks to be only visible at the muzzle and bolt. This rifle is in good condition, with little wear to the bluing or the stock. The Finnbear uses a pushfeed system with a reliable Mauser 98-style ejector. Introduced by Sako in 1961 for long cartridge shooting, the Finnbear quickly developed a reputation as one of the finest production rifles ever made. Sako rifles are known for their crisp triggers, well-fitted parts, and honest minute-of-angle accuracy. The rifle features a matte blued finish, synthetic pistol grip stock, 24" barrel, and Mauser 98 style ejector. Not so with Hybrid 180, this bullet fly out of this old rifle very very good (3 shots/1" at 330yds).This is a fine example of a Sako Finnbear L61R rifle chambered in 7mm Rem. I can get relatively nice groups with them (3 shots/2" at 330yds) but I see key holes. perfectly, but the heavier EOL Hunter 195gr. The barrel will stabilize the Berger Hybrid 180gr. Is it standard? I don't think so - but it is still the original factory barrel. I tried more times to measure it and I found out that there is 8,6" twist inside. My first question is about the twist length in my barrel. After this I had some opprotunities for hunting and killed few game with good results. After some load development and testing I was lucky and find out precise load with the Hybrid 180gr. and two Bergers, the very new EOL Hunter 195gr. I tried few different bullets, like Lapua Scenar-L 180gr., Sierra MK 168gr. Immediately after a purchase I took the rifle to my gunsmith, he maked a solid bedding and the steel parts were newly blued. The ergonomy of the stock is very good and shooting the old Sako brings me a lot of pleasure. The rifle has some aftermarket custom wooden stock with nice wood and small emblem showing a stag - see the photos below. For the nest season will Sako get some other scope, without a mounting rail.
I sell the scope to a friend and put on new powerful Zeiss V8 1,8-14x50 - stole it from my Blaser R8 rifle. There was a classic german scope on it - the Nickel Supra 3-12x56 with 4-reticle. The contour is heavier, today it would be called "semi-weight" or varmint. It has the original factory 24 3/8" long barrel. There are at least two or three owners behind the rifle but it seem so that no one of them had shot to much out of it. Last year I've bought this rifle - Sako L61R in cal.
